If you’re a parent, then you’ll probably have a good idea how helpful baby carriers can be! Baby carriers come in all shapes, styles, designs and age limits. Each boasts its own unique selling points, which makes it harder to choose one! Well, if you can’t convince them, confuse them – as Harry S. Truman has famously said.

Baby wearing is ideal for keeping your baby calm, and allows a deeper bond to be forged between parents and their child. The best carrier is one that suits your lifestyle needs, and is comfortable for both you and your baby. We’ve done a fair bit of digging, chatting and wearing to come up with our top 5 picks for soft-structured baby carriers!

 1. Ergobaby Four Position 360 Carrier

Ergo Baby Four Position 360 Dusty Blue Carrier

Ergobaby’s carriers are synonymous with quality, and unsurprisingly, this one achieves that – and more. Ergobaby boasts several lines of carriers, from the basic Original designs to the high-end Performance range, but none have the flexibility of the Four Position 360 Carrier, aptly named for its ability to be used in 4 different carrying positions. Front carrying is suitable for younger babies, and as they get older, parents can switch to a back, or even a hip-supported side carrying position as desired.

This carrier is as sturdy as it looks, and provides excellent, safe support for baby wearing. The buckled waistband is our favorite feature, and can re-distribute the weight of your baby to your waist and hips, and avoid over-straining your back and shoulders. This carrier is suitable for the long haul, since it can be switched to different positions based on your child’s age. The only gripes we have are the Velcro straps produce a ripping sound that can easily rouse a baby from their sleep, and the chest clip needs to be fastened at the back if you’re going for a front-carry position.

 2.  Tula Ergonomic Baby Carrier

Tula Ergonomic Baby Carrier

The baby carriers from Tula are both comfortable and aesthetically pleasing, with its bright designs and patterns. The Ergonomic Baby Carrier features curved straps and generous shoulder padding that are ideal for the petite mom, compared to the bulkier and thicker straps from other brands. You can choose between the Standard and Toddler sizes, and go for the canvas or wrap material. We especially like that these carriers provide full hip support for babies, minimizing the risk of developing hip dysplasia. Read more about it here

You can switch between the front and back-carry positions with this carrier. Also, the carrier is made of machine-washable Öko-Tex Standard 100 Certified Cotton, which will save you a whole lot of headache when it comes to cleaning. Newborns can be supported in this carrier with an infant insert.

 3.  LilleBaby Complete All Seasons 6-in-1 Baby Carrier

Lillebaby Complete All Seasons 6-in-1 Baby Carrier

LilleBaby carriers come in three major versions – Original, Airflow, and All Seasons, which is our fav category. This line of carriers features and adjustable center panel; zip up when baby is feeling chilly, and zip down to reveal a cool, breathable, 3D mesh. It can be worn in a whopping 6 ergonomic carrying positions: front-fetal, front-infant, front-outward, front-toddler, hip and back-carry.

It comes with a removable sleeping hood to provide tailored support for your baby’s head, and also features an extendable torso section, and the buckle is located on the side for ease of removal. The shoulder straps are thickly padded for extra comfort, and the fabric is soft and comfortable. If you’re looking to invest in this carrier, we’ll say cheers to that!

 4.  Beco Gemini Baby Carrier

Beco Gemini carriers comes in various stylish designs that appeal to not just moms, but to dads as well, and this carrier literally screams “adjustability”! It comes with a wide and tall body panel to support growing babies, and the head support and base width can be adjusted for babies of different sizes. The waist belt is widely padded for even weight distribution as your baby gets larger, and comes with a safety buckle feature to avoid accidental opening.

However, some parents feedback that the buckle is a hassle to deal with, as you’ll need one hand on the buckle sides and another on the buckle’s top to unlatch. Nevertheless, this carrier is an excellent choice for parents looking for an ergonomically designed, aesthetically pleasing carrier.

5.  Baby Bjorn Baby Carrier One

Babybjorn Carrier Air

The Baby Bjorn carrier has been re-invented into the Baby Carrier One, and is acknowledged as a hip-healthy carrier by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute. The older models did not support babies to the knee, which is the recommended position for healthy hips, but that has been fixed in this newer launch.

The shoulder straps are well-padded for comfort, and this carrier can manage the front and back carrying positions with ease. The seat area has been widened to provide proper support when your child is facing you, and the waist belt is sturdy and easy to handle. What we like about this carrier is that no infant insert is required for newborns, unlike other carriers! Also, the carrier can be rolled up and tucked into your diaper bag or stroller when not in use. Plus points for portability! We were not big fans of Baby Bjorn’s previous carrier designs, but we believe this improved design is worth every penny.
